Growing Up and Out of the South

Description

Growing Up and Out of the South is true story by an African-American woman who was born into a family of southern sharecroppers. She was an unloved child. When President Roosevelt took office in 1933, he subsidized white famers so that they did not have to plant. Thus, her family left the land and moved to the city. After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, food was rationed and scarce, so they returned to the country to grow their own food.

After a difficult childhood and the suffering of rape, she began working in physically taxing jobs. Next came the military, marriage, and a path through addiction. She attained a college degree later in life. Through her struggles, her Father in Heaven gave strength to her.
